Brumby is the name given to the Australian wild horse. They most often roam the Australian Alps.
They are descended from lost, abandoned or runaway horses, which in many cases belonged to early colonial settlers such as James Brumby.
Free-roaming, independent and naturally adapted to the harsh environment, the Brumby has become a national icon that many consider a symbol of Australia's national character.

The coin’s design portrays two brumbies majestically poised amidst an arid, barren landscape. The image is set against a backdrop of impressive mountain ranges. The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN BRUMBY’, along with the coin’s weight, fineness, 2025 year-date, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

The obverse of the coin depicts the likeness of Dan Thorne His Majesty King Charles III and the monetary denomination.
