On May 26, 2026, the Czech National Bank will issue the first gold coin in the ongoing “Urban Conservation Areas II” series. The theme of this coin is the city of Plzeň.
The coin is minted from 999.9 gold and is issued in two versions, regular and proof, which differ in surface finish and edge design.
Regular quality coins have a scalloped edge.
On the obverse of the coin, on the left, is a section of the Renaissance town hall on Republic Square. In the center of the coin field are the heraldic animals from the large state coat of arms—the Czech lion, the Moravian eagle, and the Silesian eagle. To the right of the heraldic animals is a section of the municipal library building on Bedřich Smetana Street. The text “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” appears in the upper part of the coin. The text “MĚSTSKÉ PAMÁTKOVÉ REZERVACE,” the coin’s face value with the currency unit abbreviation “5000 Kč,” and the Czech Mint mark, consisting of the letters “Č” and “M,” are located along the lower right edge of the coin.
On the reverse side of the coin, St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral is on the left and part of the U Červeného srdce house on Republic Square is on the right. In the upper part of the coin, a fragment of sgraffito plaster is on the left, above which is the text “MĚSTO PLZEŇ,” and on the right is the year of minting “2026.” The initials of the coin’s designer, academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, formed by the letters “F” and “Z,” are located near the left edge of the coin.
Each coin is accompanied by a catalogue card with a description of the coin and its plastic representation.
The coin is housed in a red case with the CNB logo in gold.
